Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra, a highly-rated and functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop, is a well made machine. The $1,400 list price is a bit steep however, you can find it for sale often enough to make the purchase more palatable. The unit looks stunning, and the base takes up little room in a corner.
The design of this robot addresses some of the issues we've had with other robotic mop and vacuum models, for example, the brushes getting caught in hair, or the brush being unable to reach floors with no furniture. The sweeping performance is impressive on carpets and flooring. The vacuum/mop system is equipped with a high amount of debris removal, and the mop is able to soak up floors that are not soiled.
The mops also use an advanced system for cleaning around the edges of furniture and around walls. The robot is able to effortlessly avoid obstacles such as food bowls, toys, and backpacks. It can get tangled or entangled with smaller, less hefty objects such as shoelaces, USB cable, and pens.
This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood flooring, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a large open-plan house. It cleaned and mopped the 90m2 space in 170 minutes using FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than the average for Gen 4 robots.
Several features distinguish this robot from other robots in its class. Freo X Ultra is equipped with a number of improvements in sensors, software and hardware that keep it ahead of its class. It has declared autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments of up to 260m2.

Miele Scout RX3
Miele is not a slouche in the world of robot vacuums and is renowned for quality and technological innovation. The new Miele robot is designed to take the cleaning capabilities to a new level, thanks to its innovative features.
The RX3 comes with dual suction technology, intelligent navigation with 3D mapping, and a camera that transmits live images to your smartphone for effortless control. Its powerful four-stage cleaning system ensures excellent dust removal on carpet and hard flooring, while the intuitive side brushes that swing out and dual suction channels remove dust from corners. Its 8.5 cm height lets it get under furniture with low levels. Front cameras and an infrared sensor help it navigate barriers, thresholds and obstacles with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test on how well it cleaned baking powder around baseboards and corners. Its suction of 2,500 Pa was a little weaker than other robots, but it moved quickly and was extremely quiet. It did not mop and its removable cleaning pad was a challenge to attach. It also was unable to handle dirt that was dried on.
Its app lacks advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It is compatible with Alexa however its voice commands aren't precise or responsive. It's also a little erratic when it comes back to the charging station following the course. Other robots can follow an obstruction or follow an earlier route, but the RX3 stumbles around until it finally gives up.
We also encountered issues with the intelligent features of the device, such as its mapping feature and the digital stay-out zones. It was effective in keeping our shoes and furniture legs away but it was easily caught on socks, cables, and rugs. That's the reason we didn't choose to include it on our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and impressive performance. It's worth considering as an alternative to uprights that are traditionally used.
